It's not an easy thing learning the truth about water in the Central Valley of California. I've lived here since the turn of the century and I've heard the complaints of farmers about not enough rain or too much rain or how the Democrats in Sacramento and Washington D.C. have conspired to make farmers lives miserable because of water. There's an article in today's Fresno Bee about how the GOP is keeping the Democrats out of the current water legislation for the Central Valley. There are a lot of finger pointing but no real answers. This is a complicated issue that requires intelligent attention, not name calling. Over the next few days, I am going to try and sort out the main points.
Tomorrow, I'm going to tell you a story about a pair of German butchers who came to America and became rich cattle barons and future stewards of our water. And we're still dealing with them today.
